FAQs
What are the different types of light globes?
There are five common types of light bulbs, including incandescent bulbs, fluorescent lamps, compact fluorescent Lamps (CFL), halogen globes and light emitting diode (LED). Each of these bulbs come in different variations of size and shape, producing different levels and types of light.
What are the best light globes?
It depends what your personal preference is. However, the most popular light bulbs currently available are halogen globes, compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), and light emitting diodes (LEDs). Though these particular light globes might cost more than traditional incandescent bulbs, they will save you money in the long run as they use less energy and are therefore a more environmentally friendly alternative.
How do I know what light bulb I need?
It’s important to note that every single light fixture has a maximum wattage. One you find that out, you’ll need to choose a light bulb with a wattage amount that’s less than, or equal to the maximum wattage on your particular fixture. Be sure not to put a high wattage bulb in a low wattage light fixture as this is a fire hazard and is dangerous.
Can you replace halogen globes with LED?
Yes you can! With most commonly used fittings, you can simply replace each bulb individually, one by one. E27 and GU10 are the most commonly used bulb fittings and replacing your existing halogen bulbs with durable LED bulbs offers numerous benefits.
How do I identify an LED bulb?
An LED light bulb is a solid-state lighting (SSL) device that uses LEDs (light-emitting diodes) to produce light. LED bulbs consume significantly less electricity than incandescent lights. In terms of the way they look, LED’s come in a range of styles, and many look the same as traditional light bulbs, which means they can fit into standard screw-in connections and replace your halogen or incandescent bulbs.
Do LED lights waste energy?
No! In fact, LED bulbs consume significantly less electricity than incandescent bulbs, as 95% of the energy is converted into light and only 5% is wasted as heat. Using less energy reduces the demand from power plants, decreases greenhouse gas emissions which makes LED bulbs more environmentally friendly.
What is the best LED bulb for home?
This completely depends on the light fixture, the space of your home and the look and feel that you are trying to achieve. Be sure to match the bulb shape to your fixture, choose the right colour tone that you want, and shop for lumens, not watts.
